DescriptionEngineers designed the plusoptiX S12R vision screener to be quick and portable. This pediatric vision screener can find common vision problems that may cause amblyopia (lazy eye). Using it is easy for non-medical staff and volunteers. Readings take less than a second, and a single test checks both eyes. This model doesn’t support wireless connections or save patient information. It checks the measurements against age-specific thresholds and gives a “pass” or “refer” result. After this first scan, patients with a “refer” result can see an ophthalmic technician for more tests. The Plusoptix S12R can save results to an SD card and supports direct printing with an optional IR printer. Six rechargeable AA batteries power it, and the package includes them. Features:Designed to be used at different places (optional carrying case is available)Runs on rechargeable, standard AA size batteries (operational while charging)No in-built database and no LAN/WLAN interfaceSaves screening reports to SD cardPrints self-adhesive labels labels for documentation in paper records (optional printer required)One year hassle-free warranty and continual free software updatesThe 4th generation mobile vision screeners from plusoptiX offer objective vision screening at an affordable price. Any child can undergo vision screening because the process requires only a short fixation on the camera. Screen children as young as 6 months old in less than a second. The hand-held plusoptiX S12R mobile screening is easy to use. It takes less than one second to complete. Non-medical staff or volunteers can do it with just a button.Plusoptix Screening DevicesThe Plusoptix S12 range of devices detects refractive errors and eye misalignment, which are the most common causes of amblyopia (lazy eye).Measurements are non-invasive, requiring no physical contact with the child. A sound target attracts fixation, and no further cooperation is needed to perform a measurement.FeaturesBinocular readingsMeasurement results are compared to age specific thresholds and a “Pass” or “Refer” vision screening result is displayedMeasurement from 1m distance to the childMeasurement in less than one secondCan be used in undilated pupilsFully automated functionChildren can be measured starting at 6 months of ageMeasurement is delegable and can easily be performed by a trained assistantChild friendly designPossibility to measure over glasses and contact lensesThe measuring principle is based on eccentric photoretinoscopy: infrared light is projected through the pupils onto the retina. The reflected light forms a specific brightness pattern within the pupil depending on the refractive error. The spherical refraction is calculated based on this crescent pattern. To determine cylinder and axis, the same measurement is repeated in three meridians. The measurement with infrared light is entirely innocuous. Infrared light is also contained in daylight and not visible.Screening ResultsPlusoptix vision screening devices provide reliable measurement values of:Refraction (spherical equivalent)Pupil diameter and pupil distanceSymmetry of corneal reflexesWith these measurement values it is possible to detect the following most prevalent childhood vision disorders that may lead to the development of amblyopia (lazy eye) including:Hyperopia (farsightedness)Myopia (nearsightedness)Astigmatism (blurred vision)Anisometropia (unequal refractive power)Anisocoria (unequal pupil size)Strabismus (eye misalignment)With the determined measurement values compared to age specific thresholds, a “Pass” or “Refer” vision screening result is displayed. Children with a “Refer” result must be sent to an eye care professional for an eye examination. What does a screening report look like?
